Reincarnation, once largely the province of Hindus and Shirley MacLaine, collides with the world of crime procedurals in "Past Life," which premieres on Tuesday at 9 p.m. EST/PST.
In this Fox series from David Hudgins, murders are solved through the recollection of memory fragments of a past that occurred before birth.
Far-fetched? Very. So much so that Hudgins and the writers need to include at least one scene in each episode to allay most viewers' obvious doubts, and they do.

A young man arrived at Ty Burrell's hotel room to stock the minibar and immediately recognized the co-star of the ABC comedy "Modern Family."
He loved the show.
Thanks, Burrell replied. The man went on to quietly describe how his family gathered each week to watch "Modern Family" together, and because of those group viewings, he was getting to know his younger siblings better.

From a supercop to a superdad: "The Shield" star Michael Chiklis is set to star in the ABC drama pilot "No Ordinary Family."
The project centers on an American family whose members have special abilities. Chiklis, who has superhero experience from his turn in the "Fantastic Four" movie franchise, will play the father.
Greg Berlanti wrote the project with Jon Feldman; the duo worked together on ABC's "Dirty Sexy Money."
